So it is March 26th and finals are less than a month away. First of all, fuck!
Secondly, and more importantly, springtime means application season. "Applications?," you ask. "But you've already gotten into law school and did the hard part." HA! I freaking wish!
Applications and elections are out now for:
- SBA elections (which I am finding myself in a very contested election at the moment);
-Write on for journals begin in a month;
-Trial Ad is accepting applications;
-Inn of Court is now accepting applications;
It doesn't seem like a lot, but it is. Oh, and by the way. Outlines anyone? Yeah, because mine are not in great shape.

Initiation and Shoes
Last night was the Phi Alpha Delta initiation at the Supreme Court. When I say the "Supreme Court" I mean the building that houses the highest court in the United States of America. Just being there was really really freaking cool. All the chapters from the DC metro where there, but I really didn't get a chance to meet anyone outside our chapter, except for the guy who I guess I'll call for MC for the evening. Here is how it all went down.
We boarded the metro on our way there. Walked up to the front of the building, where all the chapters gathered in front for a chapter picture. After that we headed around the side of the building to the entrance (note about all gov. buildings, you'll never go in the front door.) After a security scan, we lined up in alpha-order (and amorphously globbed about like a bunch of school children) and were lead up to the main hall. It was a grandiose hall. High ceilings, intricate designs, and to our left, THE courtroom. A lot of speeches, some clapping later, a little oath action and BOOM- initiated. All and all, pretty damn cool. I say this a lot to my friends and family (and strangers); going to law school in DC is one of the coolest experiences ever.
Then we all went to the happy hour. (BTW, I do NOT recommend Capital City Brewery for any event. Their catering blows.)
Out of all the pomp and circumstance from the evening I learned something really important- wear really comfortable shoes for this kind of stuff. I was on my feet for three hours straight. Let me rephrase- I was on my 3 inch, half size too large, heels for 3 hours. Buy good shoes! I think I would not have any issue if it were not for the fact that they were too large, but now half my right foot is wrapped up and I am walking with a limp. Next time I will most certainly pony up the cash (that I don't have) to get proper fitting shoes.

Proof read again, and again...
and again!
So Monday my first graded (meaning, non Pass/ Fail) writing assignment is due. It has been building on the same thing we've been working on in our past two assignments, but due to my performance in that previous assignment (I passed, but have been saying, I've barely passed) I am really trying to up my game. Here is a list of what I did for this assignment:

It has been building on the same thing we've been working on in our past two assignments, but due to my performance in that previous assignment (I passed, but have been saying, I've barely passed) I am really trying to up my game. Here is a list of what I did for this assignment:
- Created a draft fixing what I thought I did wrong on the last assignment and incorporating the new stuff.
- Proof read that draft.
- Proof read it again.
- Got back my last assignment.
- Incorporated the changes based on what my writing fellow (the person who grades my assignments) pointed out.
- Proof read that, looking for multiple occurrences of mistakes.
- Reread the guidelines for submissions.
- Proof read based on that.
I have proof read four times and I am going to do it at least once more. I am not sure whether I am freaking out about this or this is how I am supposed to attack my assignments (or both, if so, this is going to be a very redundant three years).
On a different note, we had our student org. fair yesterday, complete with buffet. I still content that the best part of law school is the free food. It was really fun though, and I got to see what sort of organizations are out there and what opportunities there are. I'll let you know more about how my foray into student organizations goes.
